My graduation trip
People have been exploring other cities, or even spending all their cash on the World Cup fever. I was thinking of joining my friends for a graduation trip. But it seems like nothing solid came out eventually. But that's a good news for me, as I can save up money to get new toys that would last me for the next 5 years at least. Some of you people must have heard me mentioning about the Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 HSM (not the macro version) that I've been thinking about for at least the past 3 months. But the price tag is still on the high side for me. Well, I've end up with something cheaper, but yet a MUST for a digital nomad like me. It's called the Epson P2000. (Photos by DPReview)
5~6 years ago, after looking at a piece of Nomad Jukebox that Sudha has, and later found out that KSWong also owns one unit of it. Well, here's a short history lesson for you people out there.
2000 A.D. :- Nomad Jukebox (6GB) costs me about RM800 after waiting for about 3, 4 years for it to drop in price. It uses a 3.5" HDD and runs on 4 AA rechargables. Mono display, only plays/store music files/ misc files (with hack). (Note: My unit went into the store after 2 years. The unit is beyond repair, and I might find one day to see if any parts can be "recycled" )
2006 A.D. :- Epson P2000 (40GB) costs me RM1800 after it's being released for 2 years. It uses 2.5" HDD and runs on a single Lit-Ion battery. 200dpi color display, and plays music, stores pictures and it's able to play movies on the run. (Note: Actually there are still some OEM alternatives, but when I buy, I don't want to worry about it's reliability.)
2020 A.D. :- An ideal storage device would be a static state storage bank. R&D Engineers have came out with Flash with 16GB used in some laptops. In 10 years time, I do hope that I can get a 80GB NAND storage device which is durable enough to withstand environmental changes.

"I thought you want to talk about your graduation trip.", someone would ask. Well, this is what I've got myself as a graduation gift. I'll be able to store all my images captured till present day into it, and bring it to outings like the one we have yesterday. Holiday would be very different with 40GB of extra images to capture without worrying about getting out of storage space.
On other issue, I have to miss Sepang GT this year. Starting to work isn't the suitable time for me to overstress myself. Maybe try my P2k out during the Dream Cars Asia 2006. I heard Matthew said that it'll still be held this year.
