Neat Image Pro 4.0

There are technology, then there are limitations of technology, then comes people who create software that overcome the limitations of technology. Neat Image Pro Plus is one of those programs. If you're a vivid photographer, you'll sometimes notice a lot of grainy red dots on places the dots are not intended to be there, those are called "noise" in photography terms. This effect is more obvious even at low ISO 200 for digital compact cameras which most of us are using. For more about noise, please read this explaination from DPReview's Glossary [Noise]

Not only does these pictures look pixxy, but it also takes up more space as JPEG is a lossy compression format. So by smoothing up the image, you actually save up a lot of disk space. From the 1600x1200 picture size i took during the wushu competition last week, it was 900kb per file before filter, and juz around 450kb after I filter the picture through Neat Image.

There is a downside of this software...which is that you're goin to lose some minor details on your picture when u blow up the picture. But i feel that the sacrifice is worth it. I'll rather see a picture with a little less details, then a picture with so much unnessasary details.

You actually have to download the specific Noise Profile from their website so that you can get the best out of your picture. Profiles are done for each stop...meaning that the profile match of around 98% will give you the best results. But for me, i work as close as i can get => 99% match profile!!!

  • Click on the link on the right to reach the download page. [Download]

  • Here is where you can find the noise profile for your camera. [Noise Profile]

  • well, i do hope that you enjoy the program as much as i do.

    Powershot S1 IS Firmware 1.0.2.0

I'm impressed that Canon came up with another firmware update that fast. Well, i say... I don't regret buying this camera at all. Other than no hotshoe and not being able to shoot in RAW, other problems are easily soft with post process.

[PowerShot S1 IS Firmware Update 1.0.2.0]

    Firmware specification changes (Version 1.0.2.0):

  • Improvements in the communication processing with the CF card.
  • Specification changes for the way images are displayed in Continuous AF Mode.
  • Improvements for the overexposure phenomenon that occurred during daytime synchronized shooting.

    Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0

There was once when i don't know how to use FTP, which end up publishing photos have became a headache. Using FTP saves up half of my time as the photos publish as fast as the uplink speed can coupe. Then i start complaining about all the time i've to waste resizing pictures before sending it up, due to the limitations of photo server.

Adobe Photoshop CS can correct my pictures which i can't work on it while shooting using negatives. But there are some features missing in Photoshop that is in their Elements software, which is Batch Processing. Before I found out about this program, i need to resize the images to publish online one after another. Which takes a lot of my time.

Other then Batch Processing, other features i find practical in Adobe Photoshop Elements is their Auto Levels, Auto Saturation and Auto Color. There's also Fill Flash function which is not included in Adobe Photoshop CS. The program can't help up much if there is motion blur, but for off focus subjects, it can slightly correct it.

There'll be a couple of midterms coming out for the next week. So i guess i'll juz stop after i'm done with the autoshow's photos.

    Shouting Leads Nowhere

There's this guy that came and have a quarrel with me, saying wut asking for my dad's phone number (so call threat) which ends up when i offered it to him, he replied, "why i want ur dad's phone number". What kinda guy is that who wants something which he doesn't need?

Tell you something that might laugh ur stomach out. When he arrives at my door, he juz honk from inside the car and didn't even intend to knock on the door. What kinda "gentleman" does that? Well, i didn't know it was for me until i finally open the door out of curiosity. What surprises me most is when he came in with THREE (3) handphones!!! Why does he have all those handphones and not knowing how to use them? Why he doesn't saw off his hands if he doesn't know how to use them to knock?

Then he talks about wut i spoil his reputation where he is shouting that loudly in front of the car porch. Wut nonsense is that?? Well, with every threat he is actually hitting himself. Something like what i've learnt in Tai Chi. When he's trying to shout, i ask him if he can actually shout louder. And he points the finger at me, challenging me to ask Irene out (if i dare)...it's not like i'm chicken or wut, i don't see any logic in why Irene needs to fit into the equation.

Then he comes out with all these issues of me spoiling his reputation, what more can i do when i see a guy brings back a girl other then his own girlfriend? What better thing i can do then quietly inform his girlfriend, who turns out to be someone who i know for a long time. Well, maybe there's a lot of unfortunate people who are not being taught the skills of communication. They learn, and they forget, sadly the number of these people are still plentiful even after being learning from higher institutions.

Oh well, i guess all i have to worry is the safety of irene and also that of my own. These type of people might say that they can do anything and everything to you. But...if u fall into their trap, u'll fail. Juz talk as what a priest would, and u'll get over with the situation.

No matter if the person spread rumours about you over the net, or even threaten you in a face to face conversation, 1st thing you have to do is to cool down, keep calm, and concentrate on what he's talking about. Talk back only when u found a flaw on his conversation. And most important of all, never shout against each other.
"Talk sense speaks louder then shouting"

    Gadget Geeks

I can't get the logic behind it when i see ab iPod mini encased in a H20 Audio SV-iMini, a fully waterproof housing and headphone set. Wut issit meant for huh? Listening to ur iPod while scuba diving? What is wrong with people these days?

And there is this lecturer that love to share some family photo and some make-up story using university's server. Wut kinda nonsense is that? [Dr. WongEK] and his [Raksasa Story] . How can he aspect his students to respect him? I have totally no idea.

Hm...anyway i've not been on luck as i've just lost a pair of sunglasses and my pencil box last week. I considered myself careless, but who could aspect more careless mistakes happen out there. My friend Solomon Teo lost his Compaq Presario (Laptop)...speachless...the same particular week as well. There are also a few people who lost their pencil box and school bag as well...

Here's a site made by students of my campus. Well, i can say that there's a lot of entrepreneurs coming out from MMU, there's Roommart and here's another small company coming out - WahLaUeH...selling affordable stuffs to our own students...check it out [WahLaUeH.com]

Taken a lot of photos on the weekends. But i don't think i'll have enough time to filter it out and post it online. Do be patient...as i'm learning to write a photography portfolio soon.

    Beautiful poem turns Pervertic

Read this poem by Joyce Kilmer on [Cirnelle's Site]. Suddenly i came out wif this pervertic idea out of nowhere....haha... i don't dare to post it on her "comments" so...here goes...

I think I shall never see
A poem as lovely as thee

As your hungry mouth is prest
For those juices flow thru your breast

As thee look at God all day,
Moan and lift her legs and say ("oh god, let's play").

As thee loves being in her summer wear,
    Fabrics so thin it shows her hair;

    Upon those bosom bushs he came;
Making love until she cries in pain.

Poems are made by perverts like me,
But only God can make a gal like thee.

    Blackout in Peninsular

Well, i suppose 5th aunty in KL muz be really interested in this story. Same goes to most of the people living in the peninsular. Fortunately this time TNB (National Electric) manage to handle the problem within a couple of hours.

Here's one of the earlier article from thestaronline [ Tripping in Kapar power switchyard cause of major blackout]. This is the fifth time a major blackout since 1992. Sept 26th that very year, peninsular face the most serious blackout in history. Practically the whole west malaysia live without electricity for 3 days.

This happens again in 25th of June, where 3 main cables in the Penang Bridge short circuited. This causes penang to be in the dark for 10 full days.

Well, the following year, it happens in terengganu on 3rd of August, where a switch tripped, which causes other 7 power generators to be faulty, this is the largest scale of unpredicted blackout, effecting 4.2 million residence.

2003/09/01 - most of the northern states were affected by the blackout. Source: SinChew Daily

Well, this very time, i believe most of you have been reading the newspaper of even heard from the gossips running around. Anyway, what makes me feel surprise when i flipped today's papers is the cinemas...where people que up for the tickets, yet can't get to watch the screenings. It's wut minor things that only journalists will realise and capture. Now i know why it's hard to earn money from taking photos....u'll have to capture wut other people never think of.

    Richie Ren Autograph Concert

Went to A'Famosa with my group of friends, a total of 16 including me. This time some other "non members" joined us for the fun: Joo Sien, Soo Sien, Adriana, Benjamin, WaiWai, HoBengSiong, which are all our classmates as well. Drove there around 3pm, which is quite early as the boys are desperately wanting to get themselves wet.

We're actually there as my mui mui, SueYee managed to get us quite a number of tickets. Thanks again SueYee!!! It muz be quite hard to do that as only the event's promoters are able to get the tickets. It's for the Richie Ren (任贤齐) autograph concert "So Far So Close",两极.

Although not really a hardcore fan, i'm quite familiar with some of his songs. He was also featured in the "Super Sunday" that i used to watch, so background wise...still not that bad lah.

Too bad there's only 4 songs sung and i can't find a good spot to capture nice pictures. I initially tried to snap from the water, but end up those stupid bugger splash water at me, and another float is trying to push me out of the way. Fortunately there's not really crowded due to the rain, and there's Irene there to help me hold an umbrella. I manage to manoeuvre something like 3 spots (center, right and left) of the stage to snap. Thanks to my 10x Powershot S1 IS, i can get quite near to that artiste.

After the concert, when he left by the van, i go through the backstage. I found a pile of wet towels for Richie to wipe his face. Well, i grab a piece as "souvenir". Haha...maybe i should auction it in HongKong's Ebay to earn some extra cash. Got the idea from a guy who sold the water drank by Elvis during the concert few months before he died in the 1970's. He insists in keeping the plastic bottle though....few drops of "Elvis Water" for loads of cash...weird weird world.

So...any Richie Ren Fan wants to get this piece of wet towel, do let me know. Price is negotiable.

    NOC3: LOVE musical presentation

Musical performance is usually not my cup of tea. But attended this because a fren of mine asks me there to help him take some pictures. Aiih~another Doraemon project. But i don't mind as i'd like to polish my skills on event coverage which ain't gonna be easy especially in low light focusing. And other downside of the camera. What makes my feeling worse is that there's one cyber guy which comes with his Nikon d70 ( a machine that costs RM4k!!!, not counting the lens that it comes with)

Few of my friends are playing mostly from the CF (Christian Fellowship) in this area. Well, good play they have there. The place is flooded with people even before the event starts. Might be due to the good impression they have from the previous 2 NOC.

What turns my face black is when i've to give him the photos i've taken the very day without me even have a look at it. Well, end up i've decided to rush back home to download those files into my computer before handling it over, which i think is a wise decision cause i only manage to get the card back like 4 days after the event. Due to that, have some small quarrel with irene. But with a small ice-cream talk, thing works out. Thanks ice-cream, thanks for making my gal happy again.

I've a few photos in my bucket. Not really those of high quality, but should be acceptable by general public gua i guess. Enjoy [

    Helping up at TsuChi, Melacca

After looking at all those people being killed and suffering after the tsunami, my friend suggests that I go and help up at Tzu Chi, Melacca. Actually i've been thinking of a long time to go there as the place is quite big and i would like to know what people have been doing in melacca to help those suffering all over the world.

Since i don't have classes today, so i decided to go there with Dianni to help up. Actually there's not much help i provide there other then to recount the donations received and divide the posters for distribution to other TzuChi centers around the Peninsular. Well, from what i observe, they donations turns out quite big, like RM3k per pasar malam night. And from various other places, the amounts won't be below RM2k. Thank you generous citizens.

They actually have this form for monthly donation, or regular membership to help up. As i'm not a consistent person, i dun think i'll be joining the fun. But when i was helping there, i found that the people there are very friendly and helpful. Imagine these people having to pay for their own tickets to go Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Sumatera to help out others. It's not like they use the money collected from donations to "travel" but the money is from their own pocket.

Interested parties can visit this website to keep updated with their current activities. [ Tzu Chi, Melaka Charity News ] . There's also a cafe, which allows people to do some peaceful reading and a comfortable garden to have a walk, to absorb what have been learnt. As usual, here are some of the pictures i've taken when i was there. [Tzu Chi, Melacca]

If you still don't know how terrible the situation Tsunami have caused, please look at this link:- Banda Acheh [Before and After] .

Last but not least, i hope that you people read this blog about what "Dying is...". I'm not sure if i've post it, but no harm reading a good article twice right? Good day.

New Item added in Wanted List

My silent night was being disturbed by this inconsiderate mosquito buzzing around my ears. Tried different methods to shoo it away, but all my attempts failed. So, i decided to read some information online, where i found a phone that might go into my wish list, if i happen to change a phone.

It's a samsung concept camera phone which will not be in our shores that soon. But i'll be looking forward to it's release. 3GB of memory...imagine that... how many songs i can fit into this beast, not to mention all the pictures i can snap not to worry about short of space. Well, good to go Samsung.

Here's the info from Camera Phone Zone
