May & Choy Wan Autography Session
Date: 15th jan 2006,Sunday.Time: 2pm
Venue: MPH book store,Gurney Plaza
The organizers (MPH, Gurney Plaza) wasn't really a good one. They only started to do the table arrangements at 2pm. And those 2 gals are like any other shoppers coming into the bookstore. They look so different from the picture. I tot there will be a long que of people waiting/taking photographs. But on the contrary I'm the first one to take their autograph and they are kind enough to pose with me.

A quote from Project Petaling Street
"As for Malaysia, the chances of any celebrity turning charitable over here is even way slimmer, because our own entertainment arena is much more competitive. But not all is lost. Just recently, two of Malaysia's hot celebrities have decided to be charitable with their fame. Celebrity models and TV hosts, twins Teh May Wan and Choy Wan, co-produced a calendar with their photos gracing its pages. At the back of every month's page will be more information about Systematic Lupus Erythematosus. The cause is inspired by the celebrities' mother who is a sufferer of the SLE. "

The View, Equatorial Penang
I met this friendly lady just a few weeks ago while I found my name not inside the recycle campaign list. Hence I leave her a memo, she was quite helpful that she put down her work and helps me search for my name. Then we went into a chat about anything from recycling to vegetarian food, fine dining and English. She even give her friends a mail to get me a journalist job in some electronics-related magazines after she found out about my interests and my acceptable English.
And we did talk about my internship as well. Since I’ll be leaving soon, she’s inviting me to join her and another 2 other interns for some sort of a small farewell party at The View, Equatorial Penang. I have always loved nice food, great music and a relaxing dining environment, but this is really something really different. Usually I only pay for like RM60 for a meal of two. But the menu here has nothing below RM100!!!
It’s a semi-buffet where we have to order a main dish while we can get a free fill of the appetizers and also desserts. They have huge king prawns, abalone, and salad for appetizers. They also serve sorbet (Wiki) in between the starter course and the main entrée in order to cleanse the palate. The whole dinner is really proper, and there are waiters who serves us all the time. The view is great as we can look across to the mainland, and the Penang Bridge is lit up. I have salmons for main entrée, and various delicious desserts that would be a terrible sin for ladies who are trying to maintain a good figure.
The bill for all 4 of us, Sanjeev, Aizat, Prema and I came up to about RM400++!!! After dinner, Prema asks if we would like to drop by the Blue Moon for a drink. I’m not really the pub/bar kinda guy, but I’ll just make an exception today. The guys played pool at the beginning, I din join in as I’ve not been playing since my days in Disted. While they guys are at the pool table, I sat down with Prema for a drink, chat about anything under the sun. As I don’t feel really good for her to give me such a posh treat, hence I offered to clear the bill this time. But to my amazement, it cost me RM75 for 2 glasses of Bacardi Coke and another glass of ice lemon tea. My face instantly turned pale, but I offered to clear the bill. But I think Prema saw my sudden change and hand me a RM50 note smiling to me and say, “Its okey, you can just pay for your drink”. I was so ashamed then. But I really appreciate her generosity. Next time I start working, I’ll make sure she’s one I’ll remember to bring her out for a proper dinner, my treat.
I took quite a lot of photos that night, but dang! I accidentally formatted my CF card when I was shooting May & Choy’s Autograph sessions. There’s only 2 photos came from Aizat’s camera. What a waste :(

On other story, my handphone was low in battery that night. Ming Zheng was trying to contact me all night as she was having dinner with my dad in Seberang Jaya. But she din recognize my dad until her mom mentioned his name. Had quite a conversation with her that night as she was worried that she might leave a bad impression on my dad. But dun worry dear, dad din complain about u.

Fact: There's this final year art student from the EQUATOR, the Academy of Arts in Penang. Bring Irene there for a look as she's really keen in arts, but continue studying science as arts is not really appreciated in Malaysia. The ideas that came out from these diploma students surprises me of how much they can do with merely a diploma. While an undergraduate engineering student like me still haven't decide on which path I'll be heading in the future.
Mom & Dad insists that I get a degree and a "stable job" before i continue photography. It's as if all photographers and journalist are useless people. I have submitted my resume for PCMag and GameAxis for consideration. Hopefully they can get back to me.
After that, we just have a walk in Indian Street as there are a lot of money changers there. We're planning a trip to Hong Kong soon, so went there to have a survey before deciding when to change some money to spend. There are more interesting stories in the afternoon.

CES 2006
I'm not sure about other gadgets, but from the reports on CES 2006 that I've read so far, there's no launching on any new cameras which interests me. Those cameras are only for consumer market, which are Kodak EasyShare V570 which sports a dual-lens, and also another innovation from Fujifilm the Finepix V10 which does more than taking photos and videos.
But can't really blame the industry as Canon just launch their semi-pro full frame EOS 5D on August, and Nikon's release of the long awaited D200. Panasonic (FZ30), and surprisingly Fujifilm (S9000z) also came up with Ring Zooms which might make people think twice before buying a DSLR. Somewhere in August 2005, the Sony came up with DSC-R1 which features an APS-C sized sensor which is really a breakthrough.
There is still a few days to go, hopefully there's some things worth buying after the Christmas rush of buying presents. Anyhow, it's just an International Consumer Electronics Show, not a photographic specific event. Just cross my fingers and pray that something interesting will come out this few days.

Saw this test on Daphne's blog. Sounds interesting enough that i gave it a try. It looks like I've got the same result as her. You can try it out and let me know if all the results are the same, or they might differe from a person to another.

Why? Windows Why?
Why you start checking softwares for validation? Why? Don't you know there are a lot of poor people like me in Asia Pacific which cannot afford to buy original softwares? Do you know it's so hard to find original softwares available in my country? Pirated copies are all over the net, but by checking for each softwares' validation, there's no purpose for me to download keygens anymore as they won't be working, neither can I think of any way to temper with the software as I'm naive about programming.
But is that the end of my computer life? No! Of course not! This will not encourage me to purchase softwares either. All I have to do is to download Freeware and Shareware. I might even considering migrating to other operating system/platform. To get things done, I'll spend more time in front of the computer studying how to get things done with the minimal applications.
I have succeeded in doin so for my internship project. And hopefully I can complete my matlab project with it as well. Pray for me, someone please file a lawsuit against Microsoft to disable their "validation" thingy. (I'm not sure what it's called, but it's a disadvantage to the users)
Lack of Updates
First of all, I'll like to greet my readers Happy New Year 2006!!!
It's a new year, but also just another day. You must be wondering about my lack of updates...and why is that so. To tell you the truth, I am currently playing with web designing, and hence took much of my time. Not much photos taken these days except the wedding of my cousin, Micheal Yeoh...will post some pictures here later after i've post process them.
Anyway here's part of my "project" playing with Javascript's Expand/Collapse Tree. And now I'm trying to play with Frameset, which might not be practical for a simple website like mine. But this is what I play during my free time. All you need is a computer and internet connection :)
